The study examines the factors affecting the gender-based
consumer purchase intention towards ethical fashion in Sri Lanka.
Primary data was gathered using self-administrated
questionnaire through online platform and physically. Sample of
the study was selected using stratified and simple random
sampling techniques through undergraduates from three selected
faculties of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Sample size of
the study was 371 respondents including 228 female and 143 male
undergraduates. Both descriptive analysis and Structural
Equation Modelling (SEM) method were applied for the
quantitative data. Findings of the study revealed that both the
female and male consumers have an identical level of awareness
regarding the ethical fashion market and related scopes. The
respondents of the study have a positive impression on ethical
fashion concept, and they believe that the concept itself is
necessary for the betterment of the society and environment.
Attitudes and beliefs regarding ethical fashion and subjective
norms were identified as the major factors which affect the
purchase intention towards ethical fashion among the consumers.
Furthermore, it was found that gender doesn’t have any moderate
effect in determining the consumers’ purchase intention towards
ethical fashion in the young adult consumers in Sri Lanka.
Findings of the study suggested that the fashion industry should
implement new methods to motivate the purchasing intention of
young customers. Also, such methods should promote the core
values of ethical fashion concept as most of the consumers are not
aware about those and for the expansion of the ethical fashion
industry.

Kanthi, M. D. P.
This study examined the attitudes toward the performance appraisal
of academics of public universities in Sri Lanka. The sample was
selected using stratified and simple random sampling techniques.
The sample size was 300 and it was allocated proportionately based
on the designations of the teaching staff: Professor, Senior Lecturer
and Lecturer. A questionnaire was used as a tool to gather the
required data from the sample. The study employed a descriptiveanalytical method and Principle Component Analysis (PCA) for
analysing the quantitative data. According to the information which
is sent by the respondents through open-ended questions of the
questionnaires, the study revealed the need for a proper appraisal
method to measure employee performance. Results of the descriptive
analysis indicated the nature of the demographic characteristics of
the respondents and their performance and achievements in the
higher education field. Using PCA constructed three models for
attitudes on existing methods related to promotion and motivation,
socialization and orientation, and performance appraisal of academic
staff members. Total variation of existing promotion and motivation
methods, socialization, and orientation, the current performance
appraisal method was described as 91.92%, 82.96%, and 94.13%
respectively. The study concluded the importance of a proper
appraisal method to measure the academic performances and
administrative performance of members of the academic staff of the
public universities in Sri Lanka.
2023-01-01T00:00:00ZModeling of Weekly Rainfall Using Confidence Interval Approach : A Case StudySilva, H.P.T.N.Peiris, T.S.G.http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/128972024-01-03T08:59:24Z2017-01-01T00:00:00ZModeling of Weekly Rainfall Using Confidence Interval Approach : A Case Study
Silva, H.P.T.N.; Peiris, T.S.G.
The degree of uncertainty of atmospheric behavior has been increased from time to time. Rainfall is one of the key climatic variable for surviving the diverse set of human and natural systems in the world. Awareness about the pattern of rainfall is essential to mitigate effects derived from climate change which cause to sustainable development of the country. Modeling rainfall percentile is one of the successful technique that can be used to describe the rainfall characteristics and its behavior. The main goal of this study is to model weekly rainfall percentile in the context of confidence intervals by developing probability distribution functions. Daily rainfall data from 1960 to 2015 during the period of Second Inter Monsoon (October to November) in Colombo City were used. Preliminary analysis found that there was no trend in weekly series. Based on the best fitted probability distributions reliable rainfall percentiles and corresponding 95% confidence bands were computed. Three parameter Weibull distribution has been found most probable for many weeks in considered time span while the rest were well fitted with the two parameter Exponential and Largest Extreme Value distributions. Based on the analysis, the beginning of the Second Inter Monsoon showed low shower with a consistent pattern. Also, a similar pattern was identified with the withdrawal of the monsoon. However, it is noted that the Weeks 41-45 (08th October to 11th November) marked heavy rainfall with high variability result which caused high possibility to form extreme rainfall events. Out of the above weeks, the Week 42 (15th -21st October) has a much higher chance to occur extreme rainfall events during this monsoon period. A similar approach was carried out for weekly running totals during Second Inter Monsoon and found consistent result. This information would be very useful for various stakeholders to plan many activities which influence the intensity of rainfall.
