<description>Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices on Critical Results Management among the Medical Laboratory Technologists in Southern Province, Sri Lanka
Liyanage, G.L.J.J.K.; Amarasingha, A.A.D.S.; Senevirathna, K.C.K.; Bandara, W.V.R.T.D.G.
Critical results require immediate medical intervention. The study aimed to determine knowledge,&#13;
attitudes and practices on critical results management among Medical Laboratory Technologists&#13;
(MLTs) in southern province, Sri Lanka. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using a selfadministered, pre-tested questionnaire with the participation of 85 MLTs. The results were analysed&#13;
using SPSS software version 21. 32.9% of the participants stated that there is a critical result&#13;
management system in the laboratory and 42.4% stated that there is no critical result management&#13;
system in the laboratory. Among the participants, 23.5% were not aware whether there is a critical&#13;
result management system in their laboratory. Study participants were categorized based on their&#13;
knowledge and practice scores. The mean (SD) knowledge score and practice score of the participants&#13;
were 42.20(±11.67) and 43.39(±10.66). MLTs exceeding ten years of experience had a significantly&#13;
higher knowledge score (50.38±10.51) compared to MLTs with less than ten years of experience&#13;
(40.67±11.07, p=0.008). The MLTs with more than 30 years of experience had a significantly higher&#13;
practice score (58.25±3.95) compared to MLTs with less than one year of experience (39.30±7.57,&#13;
p=0.002). There was no statistically significant difference in knowledge score and practice score&#13;
between MLTs with reference to gender, age or education. The overall knowledge and practice of MLTs&#13;
on critical results management is not satisfactory. The overall attitudes of MLTs on critical results&#13;
management are satisfactory. The study emphasizes the value of conducting educational and training&#13;
programs on critical results management and the evaluation of their effectiveness.

<title>The Importance of Computerized Mortuary Registers: A Study Conducted in Sri Lanka</title>
<link>http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/10924</link>
<description>The Importance of Computerized Mortuary Registers: A Study Conducted in Sri Lanka
Ariyarathna, H.T.D.W.
Monitoring of the trends and patterns seen in judicial autopsies is critical for planning interventions in&#13;
the health sector. Statistical analyses about judicial post-mortems are not adequately performed to date.&#13;
Anyhow, if there are computerized mortuary registers, such statistical analysis will be an easy task.&#13;
This research enables the identification of pertinent demographic data, manner and cause of death,&#13;
inquest types and police jurisdictions in the postmortem examinations conducted in a tertiary care&#13;
hospital in Sri Lanka. A retrospective descriptive study was conducted over a 5-year period, from&#13;
January 2015 to December 2019. The data were analyzed with SPSS software and Microsoft Excel 365.&#13;
The p value, &lt; .05 was set as significant in the chi-square test. Details of 4760 post-mortems were&#13;
analyzed in total. The autopsies had a male to female ratio of 3.7:1. The number of postmortems&#13;
performed varied by month, and no clear pattern was discernible. There was a nearly twofold increase&#13;
in autopsies performed on people aged 50 and under. There was no significant relationship between&#13;
the ability to provide the cause of death and sex. Significant associations were observed between age&#13;
and the ability to provide the cause of death, between the ability to provide the cause of death and the&#13;
type of inquest, and between the type of inquest and the manner of death. The ratio of magisterial&#13;
inquests to those conducted by the Inquirer into Sudden Deaths (ISDs) was 1:11.5. The ratio of natural&#13;
to unnatural to undetermined autopsies was 5:2:1. Mt Lavinia, Dehiwala, and Piliyandala were the&#13;
three police areas most heavily involved. It is emphasized in this study that combining findings with a&#13;
Geographic Information System in the context of geospatial technology can widely be used in the field&#13;
of Forensic medicine too.

<title>Inculcating Professional Ethics among Employees in the Workplace: A Systematic Literature Review</title>
<link>http://dr.lib.sjp.ac.lk/handle/123456789/10923</link>
<description>Inculcating Professional Ethics among Employees in the Workplace: A Systematic Literature Review
De Zoysa, A. H. N.
Professional ethics has become a vital and challenging topic in today's environment. Thus, the goal of&#13;
this study is to encourage and enhance ethical behaviour among employees, as well as to foster a strong&#13;
professional ethics culture inside organizations. In this sense, the study's goal is to accomplish three&#13;
objectives. First, it explains what professional ethics is and how it affects an organisation. Second, the&#13;
article emphasizes the importance and necessity of cultivating an ethical culture inside a company.&#13;
Finally, the study investigates how employees’ attitudes influence workplace ethics and some&#13;
implications are derived from the findings. Secondary data sources such as journals, articles, books,&#13;
research papers, and websites were used in this study, which was mostly performed using a qualitative&#13;
research approach. The study's findings indicate that employees' attitudes have an influence on&#13;
organizations' workplace ethics. According to the findings of this study, professional ethics is essential&#13;
for any organization to establish and sustain a strong and ethical culture among its employees.&#13;
Therefore, managers should focus not just on achieving corporate goals while fostering meaningful&#13;
working relationships, but also on encouraging ethical behaviour among employees.
