Development of a Formula to Quantity Emlsslons Generated from Dlesel Vehicles in Sri Lanka

Unprecedented increase of greenhouse gases (GHG) have become a burning issue in the 12 current world. Mainly Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the most critical pollutant causing greenhouse. 13 Approximately 50% of the total emissions in Sri Lanka is from transportation sector while 88% of it is 14 road transportation. Being a transport CO2 intensive country, determination of vehicle emission levels 15 as maintaining them in lower level is very important. This study is focused to investigation of a model 16 to calculate emission from diesel This model was derived based on optical properties and the 17 chemical composition of diesel exhaust. Basically CO2, Carbon monoxide (CO), Particulate matter 18 (PM) are the pollutants that can be quantify through the calculation procedure. Formulas derived are 19 direct function of the K factor which is the current result of diesel vehicle emission testing program. 20 Quantification of major pollutants of diesel exhaust is enabled from these derived formulas.
