The conservation of natural resources as well as for protecting the environment with maintaining quality living standards can be achieved by the proper waste management system. Sustainable development, waste elimination, minimization, recycling, reusing and replacing are playing a major role to handle waste management. Waste to energy and landfilling are the most promising technologies today. However, waste segregation is necessary to achieve the targets by filling the vacuum between households and local government authorities. The waste to energy is not much popular in Sri Lanka due to the high moisture content of the municipal solid waste. However, the pre-drying mechanism with solar heating can be applied together with bulking agents to minimize the moisture content of the waste. The rotational solar drum has been identified as the best option with minimum operating cost to implement the waste to energy process.en_US
